Autoresponders - What They Are & How They Work

By Jonathan GS Edwards

Autoresponders are fantastic tools & will save you a lot of time when it comes to sending messages to everyone in your list. When someone goes to your website that has an opt-in box, fills in the opt-in box with name & e-mail address, clicks submit/subscribe, their details are sent to your autoresponder and stored there.

What is a list?

A list contains peoples names & e-mail address. When someone goes to your website and fills in the Opt-in fields to subscribe to your product/service, their details are sent & stored in a list, which is stored in your autoresponder. Autoresponders will send follow-up messages automatically after a chosen period of time and when requested, send broadcast messages to everyone on your list by the click of a button.

Follow-Up Messages

Your autoresponder will then send a follow-up message to that person(s), e.g. 'Thank You for registering your interest in my product/service. Your autoresponder will then automatically send another followup message to each subscriber after a certain period of time after the last e.g. 2 days later, 3 days later and so forth.

Broadcast Messages

If you have something that you want to share with each subscriber in your list. Your autoresponder will allow you to send a 'Broadcast message' to each subscriber in your list, regardless of the number of subscribers in your list. Broadcast message is a message that is sent to all subscribers at once, with a Broadcast message, you write it in the form of a friendly e-mail & then once finished, save the message.

Instead of have to re-write or copy & paste the same message over & over, you simply type the message once, save it & then click on the 'Queue' button, your autoresponder will then queue all the messages to be sent & you will receive a message informing you of the date the broadcast will be sent. On the day the Broadcast message is sent, everyone in you list will receive the message sent, whether its 20 or 1000 subscribers.

Broadcast message should always have a structure to them

1) Introduction
2) Offer Value (Offer them something for free)
3) Option to move forward (Link to your website)
4) Sign off (Your name & you website links)

There are many autoresponders out there & you can search for them on Google but the one I use and highly recommend is AWeber (www.aweber.com).

Autoresponders will save you hours of manually writing or copy & pasting messages. Imagine how long it would take to re-write or copy & paste say, for example, 300 people. An autoresponder does it all for you at the click of a button.

How to Connect With Your Prospects by Responding to Their Emails

By Connie Ragen Gree

Responding to the emails of your prospects will help you to build your business more quickly. I can remember when people first began to ask me questions by responding to my broadcast and autoresponder emails. Sometimes they thought I had written to them personally, and I took that as a great compliment. Over time I began to build relationships with the people on my list, and it all started with me answering their emails with answers to their questions.

Make sure the email address you use in your autoresponder sequence is a current one. You will not want to miss anything that is sent to you. This is done when you first set up your autoresponder, and can be changed if you need to later on.

You may want to initiate the contact with your list. Ask them what they think about something you have written to them about. Because the overwhelming majority of marketers do not respond to emails, you will set yourself apart very quickly.

You may already be thinking that this business model will not be scalable as you become more successful in your online business, but I have been answering all of my own emails for four years now and still do not find it to be too difficult. People are amazed when I answer their questions so quickly, and when I am busy I will write back to tell them I will answer their question the following day. I have found this to be a wonderful way to find out exactly what my prospects and clients want from me, as well as an opportunity to get to know them much better.

Remember that the reason to start an Internet business is to give you the time and financial freedom to live the life you choose. Autoresponders - An Introduction

By Michel T

If you're completely exhausted from trying to keep up with the continuous flow of emails and having to answer them, you probably need to find out about autoresponders. In today's market, people expect quick replies to their queries. Unless you have found a way to pursue and maintain a 24 hour workday, or have access to staff that can continuously monitor your incoming emails while they eat up the profits, you're in trouble.

This is where autoresponders come to the rescue. Autoresponders are mostly inexpensive and some are even free. The autoresponders automatically answer incoming emails as you receive them. If you do business online, your emails are an invaluable asset. These responders will give you automatic feedback about your online business, often for very little expenditure. They're called autoresponders because that's what they do, respond to your emails without any intervention on your part. Their utility doesn't stop there. You can use them to send out business prospects, product listings, price lists, sales copy or a newsletter perhaps. Offer your subscribers special offers, time-limited offers or just some sound advice. Use autoresponders to build relationships with the people that are in your opt-in list.

The choice is yours, there are free responders and there are paid ones. Some are scripts you upload to your server, while others are provided as a service by a specialized company like aweber. Some are even free if you agree to put ads in your responses.

Whatever you choose, always include your signature when replying to emails, it will serve as a reminder every time a customer sees it and can lead to more sales. The content of the signature should include your name, company, email address, phone, fax and any additional information deemed necessary. Also include a very short write-up on who you are and what services or products you have to offer.

The actual content of your message to your list members boils down to what you need the autoresponder for. It can be simple follow-ups to previous sales or to mention specials or interesting points of value to your customers. It is important to note however, not to pitch sales every single time you contact people on your opt-in list. They'll soon get the message you're more interested in making money than you are informing them of good deals or leads to them.

For a list of autoresponders, both free and paid, just type the word into your favorite search engine and many results will be returned.

On a closing note, if you are serious about marketing online or doing business online, I'd suggest getting the paid service. They usually have much more to offer than their free counterparts.
